## Summary

Dirkjan Ochtman of the rustup team and Steve Klabnik join Bryan Cantrill and Adam Leventhal to discuss a recent rustup release that broke implicit toolchain installation, and how the community handled the resulting backlash. Ochtman explains the decision to revert the change while leaving an escape hatch, highlighting the tension between user experience and rigorous behavior. Klabnik contrasts this positive crisis management with the toxic 'Actix Web' incident, arguing that how maintainers respond to feedback defines the health of the Rust community. The episode serves as a case study in open-source governance, emphasizing empathy, communication, and the importance of maintaining a robust foundation for foundational tools.
