## Summary

Scott Nelson, CPO of Digi International, discusses major IoT trends including the shift to hardware-enabled, software-defined solutions, the rise of edge computing, and the importance of design-centric systems thinking. He emphasizes that successful IoT deployments require focusing on user value and deployment logistics rather than just technology, noting that interoperability and edge compute are dominant trends. Nelson also highlights the significant opportunity in retrofitting legacy industrial equipment, arguing that solving hard problems matters more than minimizing hardware costs.
